And it's all perfectly legal since he's doing it from his property so I keep the blinds shut.
If it stays this way I guess we'll take it to the HOA.
Other ideas:
A) Put a sign in my window that says, "If you can read this you're invading my privacy."
B) Put a sign in my front yard that says, "I don't think my neighbor is a pedophile just because he has a camera pointed at our home and videotapes the children."
The background to this story is that my neighbor had his home broken into a couple of weeks ago so this weekend he was putting up security cameras and they all were pointed to catch anyone approaching the side of the house. I'm hoping the camera somehow got knocked out of place by accident and he'll notice this and fix it. Still, it's kind of creepy.

That would really upset me! (Although, footage of My face while I try to teach Travis math or make him do grammar might be pretty humorous.) I like your idea that he might not have intended to point that camera into your window -- how about pointing out to him that he is "inadvertently" filming your kids?
This morning it was back in its original position: pointed down the side of his house.
Maybe it was a mistake.
I told my husband and he says, "Unless you actually saw him adjust it back you can't assume that the position of the camera isn't remotely controlled."
Gives me something to think about as I pass by the window.
Okay, husband and kid came in from inside and said that they saw it moving on its own.
It is in fact remote controlled. Ick.
Okay. THAT would bother me. How about a trellis with a fast growing vine in front of that window? Taking it up with the neighbor or HOA might be faster, though. Sorry you have to deal with this!
I was thinking along the lines of invasive bamboo.
Or spraying it down with a hose during the next rain storm.
I think there's a remote control helicopter around here. We could attach a laser pointer to it and have lots of fun.
Oh, the possibilities!
How expensive is a one-way mirror? If the cost is reasonable, let him admire the reflection of his camera while you can still see out.
Why didn't you just talk to him about it? Don't you know your neighbors? I know all of mine, and I've been here less than a year. Of course, some are crazy. ;-)

WHOA. I just read the article about what should be deleted from the math curriculum by Zalman Usiskin that you have linked on the right, and it's REALLY obvious that he's a prof of education, not of engineering. Many of the things he wants to delete are bread-and-butter for higher math used in engineering applications. They are also fixtures of standard college linear alg and dif eq courses. And they are used in high school and college chemistry! I think the article is very confused.
(BTW, I graphed inequalities by 6th grade--public school, using some standard, plane-vanilla curriculum. Continued doing it in every math course except trig and geom. It was actually weirdly fun to do things like develop a much of equations with inequalities to create pictures for our classmates to draw in pre-alg. And that was with a horrific teacher.)

RE: The Usiskin Article
For the life of me I can't remember why I have that link up. The right column has been neglected for many months, if not a year. Maybe it's time for some housekeeping!
Since it was anti-proof, even though it was written by a guy who was part of the CSMP, it couldn't have been because you loved it! :-)
And that was meant to be "plain-vanilla," though the pun was interesting there.

I like the bamboo thing! Or the mirror. Boy, would that camera bug me! Please keep us posted!
Just checking in to see how it's going with the nosy neighbor. How does kudzu grow in your area :) ?
Hi becky,
I got a couple of banana trees that I planted between the fence and my windows as well as some morning glories. I guess it will take a while for them to grow up enough to block the view. I'd rather look at green plants than that old nasty fence and brick wall anyway.
The camera hasn't been pointed at my house in a long time but the break ins in the neighborhood continue.
I should think a little black paint over the camera lens would work wonders.
